HOME / LYMPHEDEMA
Lymphedema is a chronic condition that causes persistent swelling, most often in the arms or legs, due to a buildup of lymphatic fluid. It can develop after surgery, infection, or injury, be rooted in congenital or hereditary factors, or arise from comorbidities like chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). In many cases, the cause may be unclear—but your experience is real, and it deserves real care.
At North Carolina Physical Therapy, we take lymphedema seriously—and personally. We know how overlooked this condition can be, and we’re here to change that. From your very first visit, we slow things down so we can really listen. Your evaluation includes a comprehensive medical history, SOZO bioimpedance scan, hands-on assessment, and a close look at contributing factors like mobility, tissue quality, nutrition, and lifestyle.
Depending on the severity of your swelling and symptoms, we’ll recommend a treatment frequency that meets your needs—whether that’s once, twice, or more per week. Your plan may include Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), compression bandaging, and custom garments fitted through a trusted local DME provider. If appropriate, we’ll help you qualify for a pneumatic compression device, or upgrade one you already have. We’ll also make sure you’re equipped with long-term maintenance garments and a detailed self-management toolkit
.
You’ll leave each session with more than relief—you’ll leave with education and confidence. We’ll guide you through skin hygiene, therapeutic movement, lymph-friendly nutrition, and everything you need to take ownership of your care between visits. Our goal is to help you achieve progress within the first 6 weeks, then transition into a sustainable maintenance routine that fits your life.
Whether your lymphedema is related to cancer treatment, lipedema, CVI, genetics, or an unknown cause—you’re in the right place. This is a space where you’re heard, supported, and treated with the respect your condition deserves.
Let’s get you moving forward. Book your evaluation today and we’ll build a plan that works for you.
